GMOA sounds alarm; at least 2,500 Dengue cases every week

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) warned that at least 2,500 cases of Dengue are being reported across the island every week.

“This indicates that 2023 will record the highest number of Dengue cases in comparison to the last few years,” GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

In a tropical country especially when the majority does not care and live by the day, what more can we do? Cut all trees and lay concrete? The inspector comes , looks at the garden asks about a refrigerator etc. that’s it. They will not look at the x number of houses which have tires on their roofing sheets and all sorts of muck! (Simply because they don’t have access to such places) they do their best- have to give it to them. Need to look at alternatives such as fogging. Personally, I have stopped blaming politicians- I blame the system and the people! (Majority people) period! Having another aragalay to change system is of no use- people need to change! (The very people who do aragalay)

GMOA members negligence is the main reason. Most GMOA members are businessmen running private channelling, labs, pharmacies near govt hospitals.

Keep your house garden clean and tiny...water is accumulated everywhere around gardens to breed more and more mosquitos .. Unless we take some strict measures we will face a lot of trouble

This is not a wonder when you see the amount of garbage collected by the side of roads, dead cats, dead rats, dead crows, dead leaves, plastic bags, empty milk packets, empty yoghurt cups, etc etc etc, the list is unending!! Stop worrying about home gardens since most people do clean their gardens but start cleaning up breeding places on roadsides first. Nobody bothers cleaning those places up!!
