Colombo, October 5 (Daily Mirror) - An agreement was reached today with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to establish a fuel station on Delft Island for the first time in history, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister and Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake said.
Speaking at an event in Jaffna, the Minister said the project will be implemented with the cooperation of the Sri Lanka Navy and will allow Delft residents to purchase fuel at the same price as in Colombo. Currently, it takes nearly seven hours to transport fuel to the island’s generator, he noted.
Once the new filling station becomes operational, it will have the capacity to pump fuel within forty-five minutes. The project will be completed in two phases, with the Petroleum Corporation investing Rs. 50 million in the first phase.
Minister Ratnayake highlighted that this development marks a new era of inclusive progress under a government committed to national and religious unity. “This administration has created a time where people can travel together from Nagadeepa to Amman Kovil in harmony and on the same boat,” he said.
He urged the public to continue supporting the government led by the President, which he described as one that “eliminates racism and upholds clean governance.”
