Colombo, April 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Petroleum Distributors Association (PDA) has announced that fuel station owners across the island will stage a silent protest in front of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) tomorrow (06) at 9.30 a.m., citing several unresolved issues affecting their operations.
Executive Committee Member D.V. Shantha Silva told the Daily Mirror that the primary concern prompting the protest is the difficulties faced by filling station employees under the current odd-even fuel distribution system.
He said that the system has caused significant inconvenience to workers across the sector.
Silva further explained that under the existing fuel price formula, the CPC and other corporations receive a 6% operating profit, while fuel stations were previously granted a 3% dividend. However, this dividend has reportedly been removed by the new governing authority of the CPC.
In addition, he highlighted that filling stations are struggling to function efficiently due to delays and failures in the scheduled delivery of diesel and petrol supplies.
The association warns that these ongoing issues are severely impacting the sustainability of fuel station operations islandwide.
“Silva claimed that although all CPC employees are entitled to a company bonus, none has been granted so far, and they are still struggling to earn a living.”
