Fuel quotas to be increased again next month: Kanchana

Fuel quotas will be further increased next month after evaluation, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said today.

In a Twitter message, the Minister said that the fuel cargo plan and supply for the next 6 months was reviewed with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).

"Fuel import plans, refinery operations, refinery upgrade proposals, QR quotas, storage capacity, stock automation, agreements with fuel stations, and distribution were reviewed and discussed," he said.

The fuel quota was an excellent idea and good implementation to this cash strap country at the point it was implemented. It not only managed the fuel situation it actually stopped wastage too to a large extent. Ppl realized to use resources carefully as well. But now it's just a waste of resource and someone or some entity must be getting paid in million to up keep the system running. Probably profiting out with it as well. U hardly see many vehicles in sheds now. Ppl have less funds to pump fuel. And the given quote is already a more than enough one. Without ripping the state coffers with the implementation system dear sir it's time to scrap this and allow normal pumping at sheds.
