Fridays to be ’work from home’ days for public servants: Minister

Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said today that steps will be taken to declare Friday, a day to work from home for public servants.

He said the number of days that public servants have to report for duty will be reduced to four days a week accordingly.

The Minister said that he hopes to submit the proposal in this regard to the Cabinet and take a policy decision.

Minister, please see that it is considered as No Pay Leave. The private sector has to sacrifice so many hardships and in the meantime settle taxes. Where as you jokers have overstuffed the govt sector and enjoy all sorts of privekedged and also as usual underperformed duties and expect all sorts of bribes from the Top leader to the bottom.

Instead of everyone off on Friday, let 50% work from office and 50% from home. You will need to spend in laptop computers for this purpose. This is not practical as most government offices are barely computerised. Wherever computerised, those have rigid software which require specific hardware. You also need to invest on security too. Stupid cabinet does not have any idea.end result, big order for buying computers and no work on Fridays.

Even if they work on Fridays nothing will be done as most of the public servants don't work in other days too they read the papers and always with the mobile phones, girls/ladies does modeling.

Very nice. How can they work from home when 90% of the government work is still based on paper ? Public sector is heavily overstaffed. The best would be to offer VRS and reduce the workforce to 50% of the current level. Without hoodwinking the public why done we simply make a four day week ?
