Colombo, April 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that a fresh postmortem examination will be conducted on April 23 on the body of Sathsar Nimesh, who died while in the custody of the Welikada Police.
The CID informed the court that the examination will be carried out by a three-member medical panel consisting of Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo Dr. Shriyanta Amararatne, Dr. P. Rohana Ruwanpura of Karapitiya Hospital, and Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana of the University of Uva Wellassa.
On April 9, the Counsel who appeared for the aggrieved party however told court that the mother of the deceased has already filed an affidavit stating that she could not find closure from the previous postmortem examination. After considering submissions from both parties, the Magistrate ordered that the body be exhumed and that a new postmortem be conducted by a panel of three expert medical officers.
Today, in line with that directive, the CID formally submitted to court the details of the proposed examination and the expert panel assigned to it.
