Colombo, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - The government would refile indictments against suspects in the 2008 killing of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge if necessary, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said in Parliament today.
Addressing Parliament, Amarasuriya said the government would also consider launching a fresh investigation if required.
“We will look into the Attorney General’s Department as well, without politicizing matters,” she added.
Her remarks came in response to questions from opposition lawmakers Rauff Hakeem and Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, who pressed the government on the long-stalled case.

What is meant by fresh indictments will be issued on Lasanatha's killers IF NECESSARY? Looks like there is no necessity of doing so right now.

Well, there are other options which you will see in the next few days so that the case can proceed smoothly. Remember this is not the yahapalana government . This is the NPP where even today two OIC's of Police stations have been remanded for serious wrong doing (Changing the lorries which transported illegal timber) without any hesitation.

The NPP government lacks vision or strategy. They are merely on a "survival" path giving open-ended responses to critical questions. The government attempts to divert public attention through putting out lists like the value of claims made by MPs from the Presidential Fund for their medical treatments, amounts given as compensation to MPs for their houses, which were set on fire by the JVP comrades during the "Aragalaya" period (actually, the JVP must be held responsible for the compensation payment to the MPs. It is they who destroyed the MP's houses. The JVP has no right to burn down houses of any citizen in this country), etc. The NPP regime is totally "lost!" and doesn't know what and what not to "do" or "say". Whatever they embark on, it ends as a failure overnight. See what happened to "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative.

This government have absolutely no COURAGE or TO MAKE the bold move to apprehend the Lasantha's killers. End of their term will say still to file for indictments.

If, as the AG said, the three suspects released were released on the subsidiary matter of the abduction of Lasantha’s driver etc., may there new indictments name the real perpetrators in the form of the then defence secretary and President, who had the most proximate reasons to eliminate Lasantha’s investigative journalism. All such as these three suspects were pawns in a vicious chain of command situation that were compelled to do their superiors’ bidding. Many are such officers and soldiers who had taken the rap for their masters. They will not be absolved of the wrongfulness of their actions, but at least, they may help establish the real culprits whose illegal orders they carried out. Causation, both in the legal sense and in the sense of the natural law, is complex and its inevitable operation goes beyond human emotion and anticipation… Let’s wait and see…

This government worried that if Gota and MR apprehended for Lasantha's murder MR's sons will come back to haunt and take the REVENGE on family members of NPP government.
