Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - The four former Presidents who are in active politics should bow out for their own benefit and for the sake of the people, MP Dullas Alahapperuma said today.

MP Alahapperuma said former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabaya Rajapaksa should keep away from active politics.

"Keeping away from politics is good for their own health and for the sake of the people. Public funds which are spent on them should not be used for any political matter," the MP said.

"Only one time US President John Quincy Adams contested for the US Congress. He is the only foreign head of state to remain in politics after his retirement from the post, he added.

They should also give up all the PERKS they are enjoying from the people's money.

    Gabriella Wednesday, 10 April 2024 07:21 PM

All of you have a scourge on the nation and should disappear permanently.

Nimal Chandrasena Thursday, 11 April 2024 11:15 PM

ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN A CURSE ON THE NATION. YOU SCOURGES SHOULD DISAPPEAR PERMANENTLY, AND THIS SCOURGE IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THEM!

    sam Wednesday, 10 April 2024 07:22 PM

They should also hand over the unlimited perks. People are suffering

Gappi Lahiri Wednesday, 10 April 2024 07:39 PM

    Including yourself certainly

Rip Winkle Wednesday, 10 April 2024 08:40 PM

What on earth makes you think anyone but an idiot wants you around?

ROHINI WIJETILLEKE Wednesday, 10 April 2024 09:18 PM

THEY WILL NOT QUIT. THESE PEOPLE ARE INTOXICATED WITH POWER AND NEED TO GO FOR DETOXIFYING THERAPY.

    Amaran Thursday, 11 April 2024 01:37 AM

Spot on. They all got the TASTE OF ENJOYING at the expense of tax Payers money. GR did not complete his term of presidency in full but he too enjoy.

    Beggers cannot be chooser.

Trump plays it twice for President, Dullas desperate for the limelight Wednesday, 10 April 2024 09:37 PM

As long as the past Presidents including Chandrika as in politics, Dullas has no light shining on him. Dullas also seems to forget about Donald Trump who is re-contesting after previous loss to become President again.

    P Jas Wednesday, 10 April 2024 09:55 PM

Well, how about you, your dirty politics just keep off from the public.

    Rasika Wednesday, 10 April 2024 11:24 PM

This is a man who sought to contest under Mahinda Rajapaksa - who was a defeated president. He also made use of Gota's popularity to get into parliament.

Podi Baba Thursday, 11 April 2024 12:11 AM

Then why are you still there? You could have retired after two terms?

    Cheers Thursday, 11 April 2024 01:32 AM

For people and country sake you should retire now and you cannot even be close to MR he is a great politician with knowledge and expertise what do you have nothing

    Man Thursday, 11 April 2024 10:45 AM

Yes, an expert in every sense for plundering from many white elephant projects causing this crisis. War was won by the armed forces with their innovative methods. Have Rajapakshas' gone to battle? Never ever. When that anicut (Mawil aru) was closed, they were shivering and had called Sarath Fonseka for some action. Because they were scared. That's why Gota ran away. What more to prove?

    Ram Thursday, 11 April 2024 02:34 AM

Dullas has a good point and all those named must retire without perks from public funds. Out of all other politicians all those who are over 65 also must retire

    Adwani Thursday, 11 April 2024 04:28 AM

Since 1956, if you look at their actions, hose actions obviously point to their criminal and corrupt intentions.

Moh Sleiman Thursday, 11 April 2024 06:23 AM

What about RANIL? RANIL should be Hanged in public,What good has he done for the country during his entire Political Carrier?ALL these old POLITICIANS should go to BED,and give the younger generation to Manage the Country So only Choice is AKD,NAMAL should join his Family and find a safe HEAVAN because their time is limited.

    Sanga Thursday, 11 April 2024 07:02 AM

People’s turn will come soon… Be aware of the Patriots…

navratne willamune Thursday, 11 April 2024 07:44 AM

not only primenisters, some ministers and mps too who took bribes are raising their heads again

    Enlightened Thursday, 11 April 2024 08:39 AM

What about the incumbant? They all hail from a country failed and retired hurt. Fullsstop.

    Enlightened Thursday, 11 April 2024 08:44 AM

People requested retired Digol to come back. There are no such leaders among local enlightened ones.

And Sirisena has flown to Bangkok for Bawana?! Thursday, 11 April 2024 09:02 AM

Mahinda showed what a President can do to benefit his extended family while he was in power. Let us hope Ranil can show what a President should not do to his extended family as he has no progeny. Let this be a guidance to impose on future presidents. After all, it is Public money of miserable citizens.

melville perera Thursday, 11 April 2024 09:47 AM

a bright idea as all four are on the ageing ailing list visible to the naked eye They are hoping the unlimited perks at taxpayers expense will cure them. In short they are not entitled to these perks only if they can prove they have no wealth inherited or otherwise

Vive James Thursday, 11 April 2024 10:10 AM

We who elected them. Why? Soul searching is much useful and therapeutic to All of us. Especially after 2009

Suba Anagathayak Thursday, 11 April 2024 10:36 AM

Unfortunately our foolish set is there to back them dreaming of a brighter future. Regreattably the typo media, editors like Dullas pioneered going after them asking silly questions and back them pathetically. Even the Paparacy sets of National media back them, because they know they may be rewarded one day or dreaming of brcoming a media advisor to the lokkas in future. Alas! monopoly capitalists controlled media, both public and 'private'.

    Man Thursday, 11 April 2024 10:56 AM

@ Moh Sleiman; The choice for Shiploads of containers with talks only. But, no action as the minister of agriculture (2003 to 2005) and chief of the committee against corruption (2015 to 2019). What more to prove as failed in every sense?

    Man Thursday, 11 April 2024 10:58 AM

They talk of some common policies. But, they have not published their policies to rely on for the whole opposition in unison to unite and talk of others. It's a joke indeed.

    Yahapala Thursday, 11 April 2024 11:25 AM

Ok. Them what about the old man and pinguuttera president Rami Wickremasinghe the all time loser?

    Lawry Thursday, 11 April 2024 12:07 PM

They should not take any of the privileges afforded to them as retired presidents. They should loose their entitlements if they engage in politics. Their services are welcome if they do so.

wickrama wijayasiri Thursday, 11 April 2024 12:20 PM

Not only them, the entire bunch of 225 should go home never to return.

melville perera Friday, 12 April 2024 07:44 AM

if they do get into the race they must sacrifice all retirement perks as they have amassed enough of riches and comforts during their political hay days . In short they should be ashamed accepting taxp yers; ex gratia sacrifice

    DJ Friday, 12 April 2024 09:15 AM

    Including you.
