Four cops arrested over assault on suspect

Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - Four police constables attached to the Wadduwa police station were arrested in connection with the assualt on a suspect who died after being released on bail, Police said.

They were arrested by the Panadura Criminal Investigation Division this afternoon on charges of assaulting the suspect.

Panadura Divisional Crimes Investigation Division launched an investigation into the incident where a suspect who was arrested by a team of police constables from the Wadduwa police, died after being released on bail. The suspect had been hospitalised after being released on bail and had later died.

The arrested police constables will be produced before court tomorrow.

They have been suspended pending investigations.
