Former minister’s brother arrested over fraud



Colombo, July 15 (Daily Mirror) - Former Provincial Councillor Jayalath Bandara Dissanayake, the brother of former Minister S.B. Dissanayake, has been arrested over allegations of financial fraud, according to police.

The arrest follows a complaint lodged with the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), alleging that Dissanayake obtained Rs. 27.5 million from a resident of Weeraketiya after claiming he could secure a liquor licence for the complainant.

The CCIB's Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division launched an inquiry into the complaint, leading to the suspect's arrest in Hanguranketha.

Dissanayake, 58, is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (July 15).
