Colombo, Sept. 11 (Daily Mirror) - Former Director General of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), Sampath Ratnayake and former Director, Weerawansa Perera, who were arrested over corruption allegations were released on bail.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama granted bail to the suspects on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and a surety bail of Rs. 2.5 million each.
The Chief Magistrate further imposed a foreign travel ban on the suspects.
The suspects were taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) while appearing to give statements before the Commission and were produced before court.
Investigating officers informed court that the arrests were made over the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 20 million by granting on temporary lease a 55.5 perch of land belonging to the UDA at Mayura Place, Colombo 05.
