Former Speaker MP Asoka Ranwala’s wife injured in car accident

Colombo, January 17 (Daily Mirror) - Former Speaker and MP Asoka Ranwala’s wife has been hospitalised following a car accident that occurred last night (16) near their residence, police said.

They said the accident took place on the Kelaniya–Biyagama Road while she was attempting to enter her residence. At that moment, a car travelling from the Kelaniya direction had collided with her vehicle.

A police officer who was on night security duty at the MP’s residence had immediately informed the police about the incident.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident has been identified as a resident of Kalutara North.

He had reportedly been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Asoka Ranwala’s wife, who sustained injuries in the collision, is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Biyagama Police.

In this case the driver of the other vehicle will be found negligent for sure. From the description of the incident it appears that Ranwala's wife was at fault because the oncoming cars have the right of way not the turning vehicles. It is also surprised that the driver was immediately found the the influence of liquor while Ranwala test was done after 48 hours .

Yes When it comes to someone else the police are sure the driver was under the influence of liquor . But if it was the MP the police would have come out with many excuses.
