Former PS member dies inside police cell in Hungama

A tense situation has been reported after a former member of the Pradeshiya Sabha who was arrested by the Hungama Police has died inside the police station lock up.

The Hungama Police arrested the 62-year old former Pradeshiya Sabha member today on charges of selling liquor on Poya day.

It was reported that the former PS member fell inside the police cell soon after he was taken to the Hungama Police.

Police said the suspect was later admitted to the Ranna Hospital and pronounced dead on admission.

Following the death of the former Pradeshiya Sabha member inside the police lock up, a group of people including his relatives staged a protest blocking the Colombo-Kataragama main road at Ranna.
