Former Kundasale PS Chairman Asela Ekanayake granted bail

Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) - Asela Ekanayake, the former Chairman of the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha, who was arrested today by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, was released on bail today.

Colombo Cheif Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali granted bail to the suspect on two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

The suspect was produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court today following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

The investigation was launched following a written complaint concerning the suspect’s assets and income allegedly acquired during his tenure as Chairman of the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha.
