Colombo, Dec 18 (Daily Mirror) - Former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) a short while ago.
According to sources, he was arrested after the CID recorded a statement over the import of substandard Immunoglobulin injections.
With regard to the ongoing investigations related to the substandard Immunoglobulin scandal, several officials including the Director of the Medical Supplies Division are currently in remand custody.
Trade unions representing health professionals have raised concerns that the recent arrests made by the CID in connection with the import of substandard Immunoglobulin injections are only targeting lower-level individuals, while the masterminds behind the scandal remain at large.

Very good! But not only Chandragupta and his immunoglobulin scam, but also other medical directors from other departments should be arrested for their major thefts and scams. Good example is Dr Prasad Ranaweera, former director of Malaria Control unit, Colombo who is involved in a huge theft regarding PABX and phone system tender to a private company to the value of over 100 million rupees, with significant payback to him including lands and houses, all given to his immediate family members.. still no action taken against this thief..

There are other directors also, example Dr.Champa Aluthweera former director leprosy control unit walisara. Being a lady she totally sabotage the leprosy control and with fake bills she earn more than 200 millions which came as foreign aids to treat poor leprosy patients in sri lanka , this can prove by auditing .Yet no action taken just change the unit for this thief ....

It is obvious that most of the directors are corrupted in health ministry, who use their power allegedly. But we should not forget that authorities above the directors are the ones who safeguard these directors. Both these mentioned directors are puppets under Dr Arnold, who is covering for them, to prevent back firing. Unfortunately this is the sad truth of most of the departments in health ministry. Everyone is covering eachother asses to cover their faults.

Keheliya shouldn't escape just because he is now not in the Health Ministry ! How great if all involved in fraud and other wrong doings are rounded up . This is only possible if the CID and CIABOC Officials do a honest job and don't get influenced by crooked Politicians. Meanwhile our expectations from the new Minister of Health to intervene in price reduction of Drugs which are controlled by a Mafia are a disappointment.

Oh what a day. I am an Octogenarian and all this is unimaginable before 1972 when Mrs B, Felix with Colvin R De S connived to abolish the Civil Service which serviced the Permanent Secretaries of the highest calibre. Any CCS left will be crying today. Indian Public Service is still at its peak as they have kept the elite Indian Civil Service going.Those CCS guys would never descended to the level of politically appointed Ministry Secretaries these days.

One minister of this government said while referring to 7 million dollar controversial Chinese fertilizer scam that it was happened prior to his period, those officers involved either retired or transferred to other ministries so no way to take action to recollect the money paid or take legal action, in a future government this minister too, should sue for aiding and abetting to loot from already bankrupt country
