The Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau has docked the vessel containing 250 kilos of heroin at the Colombo Port, which was seized in international waters off Sri Lanka last week.
Six Pakistani smugglers and an Iranian smuggler were arrested on board the vessel.
Defense Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne was present at the Colombo port to inspect the seized heroin consignment today, the Navy said.
Director General Operations of Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Prasanna Mahawithana said that this operation was carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy with the assistance of the Police Narcotic Bureau after several days of continuous surveillance in the international waters.
He said 225 packets of narcotics contained in 09 sacks were seized from the vessel.
The vessel with the smugglers were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for investigations
Meanwhile, the Navy said it has been able to nab narcotics worth over Rs. 13.16 billion, this year alone.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuirya)
