Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath heads for Geneva



Colombo, Sept. 7 (Daily Mirror) - Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath left for Geneva this morning (7) to participate in the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which begins tomorrow (8), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During the session, Minister Herath is scheduled to deliver a special statement on behalf of the Sri Lankan government. He is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with senior diplomats, including a planned meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk to highlight the new government’s initiatives, progress and future plans on human rights protection.

Minister Herath will be accompanied by Dyani Mendis, Director-General of the UN and Human Rights Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
