Colombo, Dec. 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Irrigation has extended the flood warning for several low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River Basin for a further 24 hours.
According to the department, the warning will remain in effect until 5.30 p.m. tomorrow (20).
The alert was first issued yesterday (18) due to the risk of minor flooding caused by heavy rainfall in parts of the Mahaweli catchment areas and the release of water from upstream reservoirs in the Mahaweli Valley.
Residents in low-lying areas of the Kinniya, Muttur, Kantale, Seruvila, Welikanda, Lankapura, Thamankaduwa and Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been advised to remain vigilant for possible flooding.
