Dec.23 – Priandana achieved the feat during the first game of Cambodia’s eight-match T20I tour of Indonesia in Bali on Tuesday (December 23), which the home side won comfortably by 60 runs. The all-rounder opened the batting but was dismissed for six off 11 balls.
His opening partner, wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, then took up the run-scoring mantle, hitting his third T20I century with 110 off 68 balls, laced with eight fours and six sixes. No other batter scored more than 15 runs as Indonesia reached 167 for 5.
In reply, Cambodia, featuring six T20I debutants, were jolted in the second over when Marcelle Hanekom departed for a duck. Muhammad Naeem followed on the very next ball, before opener Shah Abrar Hussain and captain Luqman Butt added 80 runs for the third wicket.
Cambodia were still in contention at 106 for 5 after 15 overs, needing 62 runs, when the 28-year-old Priandana was introduced into the attack with his right-arm pace. He struck with Hussain’s wicket on the first ball, then removed Nirmaljit Singh and Chanthoeun Rathanak on the next two deliveries to complete his hat-trick.
Mongdara Sok survived the fourth ball but was dismissed on the fifth, followed by Pel Vennak after a wide on the final delivery, completing Indonesia’s 60-run victory. Priandana finished with remarkable figures of 1–0–1–5.
While this marked the first instance of a bowler taking five wickets in an over in international cricket, the feat has previously been achieved in men’s T20 cricket by Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain and India’s Abhimanyu Mithun.
There have also been occasions where five wickets fell in an over in international cricket, but those included run-outs. Priandana is the first bowler to claim all five dismissals himself in a single over at the international level. - (Wisden)
