Five arrested with illegally imported cigarettes worth Rs. 330 Mn

Colombo, Dec. 18 (Daily Mirror) - Five suspects, including three employees of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, have been arrested with a consignment of illegally imported cigarettes valued at approximately Rs. 330 million.

The arrests were made by a team of officers from the Special Investigation Unit of the Excise Department during an operation carried out in the Wellampitiya area.

According to the Excise Department, a total of 2,030,000 illegally imported cigarettes were seized during the raid.

Further investigations are currently underway to identify other individuals connected to the smuggling operation.
