Five arrested for pilferage of garlic from container in Ragama
Five men have been arrested over a theft of 777 kg of garlic from a container in Ragama yesterday.
Police said the suspects fraudulently stole garlic from a container loaded with 33,000 kg of garlic belonging to a private company, which was being transported after payment of duty and released from the customs.
The two suspects who attempted to sell the stolen 777 kg of garlic and three suspects who came to buy them for Rs. 734,840 were arrested by police. Two lorries that came to transport the garlic were also taken into the custody.
The arrested suspects were aged 22, 28, 44 and 50 were from Dehiowita and Ragama were remanded until August 9 by the Welisara Magistrate. (DSB)
