Fishing craft brought ashore with 500kgs of heroin, ICE

Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Two multi-day fishing boats intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy yesterday (27) off the southern coast were found to be carrying approximately 500 kilos of heroin and Crystal methamphetamine (ICE).

The operation, conducted jointly by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau, resulted in the arrest of eleven fishermen.

The arrested individuals are reportedly residents of Devinuwara.

The seized vessels have since been brought to the Dikowita Harbour for further investigations.

The amount of drugs seized is staggering. Wondering just how much is getting through. Need very harsh sentences, fines, and no bail! Also, perhaps we need a good radar system to monitor vessels approaching coastline.

Drugs and Alchohol consumption is at the highest level, the Pacha Party has been saying that 70% of people did not have three meals a day but how come then there is a huge consumption of drugs and Alchohol.

A former minister said in parliament some years ago, that ninety percent of seized drugs re-enter the market. Hope this doesn't happen again. By the way he was a Minister of the ruling government when he made that statement.
