Fishermen, naval communities urged to remain vigilant as rough seas expected

Colombo, June 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has issued a special advisory, requesting naval and fishing communities to exercise caution when venturing out to sea, as the active southwest monsoon conditions continue to affect several coastal areas around the island.

According to the advisory, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough to very rough at times, accompanied by strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 55 to 65 kmph.

The Department urge all fishing and naval communities operating in these areas to remain vigilant and to pay close attention to future weather forecasts issued by the department.

Mariners have been advised to avoid unnecessary voyages and ensure safety measures are in place, as adverse sea conditions could pose significant risks over the coming days.

Further updates and detailed forecasts will be made available through official channels as weather patterns continue to be monitored.
