Fire on MV X-Press Pearl: Eight containers washed ashore off Negombo: DMC

Around eight containers of the ship MV X-Press Pearl have washed ashore off the coast of the seas of Negombo and Colombo, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said today.

DMC Spokesman Pradeep Kodipply said people living in the coastal areas from Colombo to Negombo and Negombo to Kalutara are requested to alert the DMC or the Coastal Conservation Authority, if they witness any container or pieces or debris washed ashore. “Do not allow the children to touch any of the debris,” he said.

The ship MV X-press Pearl caught fire a few days ago and an explosion was heard on Tuesday morning.

 Indian marine craft including ICG Vaibhav, ICG drone and Tug Water Lily were rushed to douse the fire on Tuesday. (Yohan Perera)
