Following the instructions of the President, the Health Ministry will move to convert 50 Ayurvedic Hospitals to intermediate COVID Treatment centres.
The decision was taken by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarchchi at a meeting held at the ministry yesterday.
With the decision of converting, all Ayurvedic hospitals to intermediate COVID treatment centres, 3,500 hospital beds will be added to the hospital capacity, Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development and Community Health State Minister Sisira Jayakody said at the meeting.
At this discussion, it was also agreed to provide formal training on COVID treatment to all health workers in Ayurvedic hospitals and to vaccinate all health staff expeditiously.
The Health Minister also agreed to expedite the provision of essential medical equipment, medicines and personal protective clothing concerning COVID treatment.
Further, discussions were held regarding provision of food and beverages to the medical staff, including patients referred for treatment, and the Minister instructed the officials to take necessary action to provide a nutritious meal and to inquire into the proper functioning of those activities.
