Colombo, January 29 (Daily Mirror) - A female Executive Public Relations Officer at a leading five-star hotel in Wadduwa has reportedly fallen ill after an incident in which she was allegedly abused by a group of Polish nationals.
On January 19, a group of Polish nationals, reportedly intoxicated and naked, were in the hotel's swimming pool when they allegedly pushed the 40-year-old officer into the pool.
The fall caused her to suffer fractured bones and difficulty in breathing.
She was admitted to Panadura Base Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The officer, a resident of Panadura, had reportedly asked the group of tourists to leave the pool. When one of the Polish nationals became angry, he had allegedly pushed her into the pool, resulting in her injuries.
It has been revealed that the group of Polish nationals has since left the country.
The hotel management has not adequately addressed the female officer’s concerns following the incident.
A complaint has been filed with the Panadura Headquarters Police, and the Presidential Secretariat has also been informed.

A country which has so many resources that could earn foreign exchange respectfully, is trying to earn it by using cheap ways - tourism and housemaids.

Hotel management of all hotels must learn not to bend on your knees in front of tourists. Not all white people are white in their behavior and character.

This NPP government's knowledge is NOT good enough to bring foreign exchange. All what they know is "tourism". AKD's exposure to business, sources to attract FOREX are very much limited. He was speaking about "EXPORT ZONES" during presidential election. Has he created any such ZONES so far?

Why hotel mangement neglected the incident. They should have immediately lodge a complain with the local police and got a travel ban on tourists. Now they have fled the country without any action. At least now black list those guys passports as wanted criminals and inform the polish government officials and european union officials as well. Sometimes they will take action considering the affected victim is a woman

Hotel management should be hauled before the courts for failing to protect their employee and having these hooligans arrested immediately. Were they more worried about bad publicity and loss of earnings than the wellbeing of their staff? If we dont repect our own citizens and protect them, how can we expect others to respect us. It is not too late yet. The government should instruct the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Poland to file a case against the hooligans there so that they are punished.

Totally agree. Tourists once in this country must respect our law just like the locals. The ‘colour of the skin’ does not matter. We are a polite nation and welcoming hosts but taking advantage of that and having a boorish behaviour is a no no. By the way Poland is not a ‘poor’ country and I had many polish colleagues working with me. They are pretty decent people!

First and foremost, doe we have Law and order for "LOCALS", to claim that foreigners and Tourists must follow!!?? Else, is it the Law of the Jungle as enforced by 'MEDAMULANA, BOTHALE, HORAGOLLA, WALAUWE' etiquette and codes determined from time to time, to suit their diverse objectives!!?? Not at all suggesting or even imagining, that they employed such techniques as Swimming in the 'NUDE', in their Residential Swimming pools, which at present is only speculative at best and an indeterminate!!?? God Bless!!??

@Truth you may be part of hotel management, why were these tourists arrested ? Regardless of their power, a crime has been committed, what if she died because of this fall. Since the hotel has all the information about out these tourists they should file a case against them for attempted murder. But , not sure if western boot lickers in the government will do that. But Mr Truth your attitude is more like a boot licker.

If the hotel management is keen to put things right, they should work with the law enforcement authorities and the legal system to obtain an arrest warrant against the culprits to have their arses thrown in jail! Let this be an eye opener to the rest of the wannabe hooligans who exploit innocents.

Poland is one of the poorest countries in Europe , here in Britain most of them work as labourers and street cleaners. The fact is when the polish like all other Europeans travel to non- White countries they get into the superior feeling of " being white ". This "white superiority " is the logical consequence of the White countries ruling the non-White countries for 400 years.

True. I think the issue with so called top class hotels, fast food chains and even super mrkets chans are that the top mangement is too stingly so that they hire managers with very poor background, zero to just a couple of yrs experience who are not mature enough to make decisions, ready to work with low salaries and without any proper training. For example look at some of the major super markt outlets, the managers are hardly have any good experience and looks mature enough to handly pressure and take quick actions.

Minister of Tourism over to you. Was a complaint being made to the Police regarding this incident? Trying to cover things out decent tourists are certainly not going to spend their holidays here. Management has to be answerable to this. It’s also common sense. To tackle such issues you can’t expect a lady to handle a bunch of drunkards. The lot should be caught and locked up else the management should be thoroughly dealt with.

First and foremost, arrest the person in the Hotel who failed to report the incident to the Police because he/she may have been bribed by the tourists to hold back until they leave. Second, have the Hotel pay fully for the hospitalization, medical care, salary during recovery period and full injury compensation to the injured staff member. This will teach this Hotel, how it needs to act when it happens next.

THE HOTEL MANAGER AND MANAGEMNT MUST BE BROUGHT BEFORE A COURT OF LAW, THE MANAGER SHOULD BE GIVEN A SEVERE WARNING AND PROBABLY LOSE HIS JOB OR DEMOTED. AS FOR THE MANAGEMENT SHE WAS AT WORK WHEN THIS INCIDENT TOO PLACE, THE MANAGEMENT MUST COMPENSATE THE EMPLOYEED FOR HER PAIN OF MIND, INJURIES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA AND SHE SHOULD ALSO BE GIVEN TIME OFF TO RECOVER AND RETURN TO WORK ALL PAID LEAVE DURING HER ABSENCE. THE MANAGER SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE POLICE AND THE POLICE SHOULD AND WOULD HAVE ARRESTED THE GUY WHO PUSHED HER INTO THE POOL AND LOCKED HIM UP PENDING BRING HIM BEFORE A COURT. IT IS OBVIOUS THE PARTY WOULD HAVE HAD BOUGHT THE BOOZE INTO THE HOTEL AND BEEN CONSUMING IT IN THEIR ROOMS. IF THEY DRANK FROM THE HOTEL BAR, THEY BAR TENDER SHOULD HAVE CUT OFF SERVING TO THEM WHEN HE REALISED THEY WERE INTOXICATED AND IF THEY CREATED A SCENE, THE POLICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED IN IMMEDIATELY.

Unfortunately, where there is alcohol and idiots, there are problems. I am Polish and I feel sorry for this situation, I hope that the morons from my country will pay for their behavior. Most likely they come from peasant or proletarian families and are treating inferiority complexes. In Poland, such a situation would end in a courtroom and in Poland there is no acceptance for such behavior. I would like to know the names and details of the hotel to publicize this matter in Poland. The world is divided into smart and stupid people and good and bad. What a horrific event. How did they flee so fast? As soon as the incident happened police should have been called to the hotel. Get interpol involved and arrest these sick individuals for attempted murder.

If this had happened in the West or Australia, the police would have got involved, arrested the hooligans and taken them to court right away. The victim would have been compensated for injury and humiliation, the accused would have to pay punity damage too. If it is found that the hotel management fell short by their employee, an example of them should be made. This will not be allowed in Canada or the UK where I lived.

Authorities must take over and the SL Amb in Poland should get involved and notify the authorities in Poland. I also wonder as to why a female executive was sent to ask a group of intoxicated male guests to leave the pool ? A severe lack of judgement there by the hotel management. Anyways, the hooligans should face the music as their behavior is unacceptable.

A trial in absentia is the way to go, this will deter similar behavior in future. In such incidents the manager usually is directed from the very top. A hotel friend called the cops on unruly poweful guest and the hotal found fault, lost his job but he sued and won. You need real character for that. He is now a top hotelier in a foreign country.

Firstly that lady officer should have informed the manager to ask those foreigners to leave the pool. Secondly there should be male workers during that time. This is a serios crime done by those polish foreigners and hotel management should have informed the police about the incidence to arrest the culprits.

With the recent influx of mainly low budget tourists even from poor war torn countries like Ethiopia Ruwanda Ukraine etc. as seen on youtube we don't have much of a choice to select the rich tourists as they are always seen being inteviewed for some cheap publicity. These low budget tourists know very well we are a poor country and are desperate for their dollars as a result they think they can behave like wild animals A typical example is the recent incident at this tourist hotel where this female hotel officer was pushed into the hotel swimming pool by some intoxicated naked polish men who are supposed to have fled the country. Compared to other countries in South Asia according to statistecs Sri Lanka recieves the least nimber of tourist arrivals. Last year we recieved only 2 million tourists whreas other countries in the region recived more than 10 million tourists in 2024.
