Colombo, March 5 (Daily Mirror) - A female lawyer who was found guilty of preparing forged deeds was today sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne.

The judge held that the prosecution had proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt for allegedly preparing forged deeds in relation to a land in the Borella area about 16 years ago.

Accordingly, the judge sentenced the accused to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and ordered the Prison Superintendent to implement the sentence in a manner that it would run concurrently and be served within a period of six years.

The accused, who was found guilty of the charges, was identified as Renuka Priyadarshani, an Attorney-at-Law.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against the accused lawyer on two counts, including the preparation of forged deeds for a land in the Borella area in Colombo on or around January 22, 2010.

Delivering the verdict after a lengthy trial, the judge stated that the prosecution had proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and accordingly found the accused guilty on both counts.

Accordingly, the judge imposed six years’ rigorous imprisonment on each charge, amounting to a total of 12 years and ordered that the sentences be served concurrently so that the total effective term would be six years.
