Parliament, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition MP Dilip Wedaarachchi alleged in Parliament today that he was falsely arrested by the police for drunk driving.

"I was arrested by the Fort police while I was returning from the airport after picking my son who returned from abroad. I was accused of drunk driving. I was dragged to the police station and was subjected to tests. The tests proved that I had not been under the influence of liquor. Therefore, I request the Speaker to summon the relevant police personnel and advice them on dealing with MPs," he said.

Hay Wedaarachchi, MP's are not Super Powers or Fallen Angles, they also have the Red blood understand the current Police Department is working for AKD's Government and they are duty oriented.

MP's do not have a separate law in Sri Lanka. He would have been arrested because he was driving incorrectly and the policeman thought he was under the influence of drinks or drugs, After a proper test and found to be free of alcohol he was released. That is the normal procedure. Does he think he is above the law? The whole problem is these former politicians think they are above the law and can do anything and get away with it.

Why the policeman must be summoned after testing he was not arrested and police or any doctor knows that he drunk only by testing to give proof.

The law is equal to everyone. Sometime ago the British PM's wife was arrested for ticketless travel. New Zealand Minister of Justice was arrested for drunk driving and she resigned. Just because you enter parliament it does not mean you are above the law and cannot be arrested. The sooner these idiots realize it the better.

Frankly, I don't blame the MP one bit. I’ve personally had the Colpetty police haul me into the station claiming I was driving under the influence—despite not having touched a drop of alcohol in weeks. When I demanded a breathalyser test to prove I was sober, they smugly told me their “experience” was enough to declare I was drunk, no test needed. I was forced to sit there until 4 a.m., without cause. And as I was finally let go, one of them casually remarked that the whole ordeal could’ve been avoided if I had just coughed up 10,000 rupees. That’s not law enforcement—it’s extortion in uniform.

Police has gone crazy definetely. Look at the events that have taken place, including the arrest of that 20 year old girl who had not even stepped to a station. Put your selves in their shoes. Dont talk like crazy idiots. Its easier said. You will feel if your loved ones were arrested without no reason. I dont even allow my kids to travel alone in the nights as the POLICE has gone nuts. Take this MPs sons incident, would any father could take it when there is absolutely no wrong doing but just fabrication and becoming targets for being in spotlight. How on earth you know if the Vehicle you bought from someone was illegally assembled? And why immediate crack down and arrest. You take the vehicle into custody and do a full investigation and then proceed with arrest. I saw some one was talking of arest made overseas... Come on there is law and order there, here the law is completely broken down and witch hunt is happenning. Crazy.

Nonsense. I am confident that police could recognize a driver that has been drinking before driving, and if he was driving then they may have been breathalised. So, bite the bullet man, and own up, pay your fine and collect points. Stop being a crybaby in the parliament. Parliament is not a place to discuss your personal life. So shove off!

Hay man, don't say that you are arrested falsely. I have seen you how you act fully boozed when you are out of the Parliament. The Police Officers did the right thing making you to blow the balloon. If you want to drink do it at home not on the road.
