Colombo, September 23 (Daily Mirror)- A Fundamental Rights petition filed challenging the appointment of High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake as the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) was withdrawn today by the petitioners before the Supreme Court.
When the matter was taken up before a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Mahinda Samayawardhana and Justice Sampath Abayakoon, counsel for the petitioners sought court’s permission to withdraw the application.
Accordingly, the petition was ordered to be dismissed.
The petitioners - Wewalduwe Gnanaprabha Thera, Chairman of the Foundation for Rule of Law and Justice Shan Senanayake and Witiyala Kavidhaja Thera filed this petition as public interest litigation, naming the Chairman of the Constitutional Council, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, members of the Constitutional Council, Director General of the BriberyCommission Ranga Dissanayake and several others as respondents
