The temperature felt on the human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution’ level at some places in the North-Central and Eastern Provinces and in Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Moneragala districts, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said while issuing a heat index.
According to the heat index issued by the department, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticoloa, Ampara and Moneragala Districts will be affected by hot weather conditions.
"People may suffer heat cramps and exhaustion, and continuing activity in the heat or sun could lead to heatstroke," the advisory warns.
The department also advised the public to remain hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible at job sites.
They also advised checking on the elderly and the sick, who are indoors, and not leaving children unattended.
"Outdoor workers are advised to limit their strenuous activities, find shade and stay hydrated," it said.
Matale, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara are also recorded as caution areas.
The heat index forecast is calculated by using relative humidity, maximum temperature and the conditions that are felt on the human body. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Keep destroying the nature...clear all the Rain forest..build hotels were no human live..sell all our our natural resources. Today tea plantation is dead..world No.1 tea becoming no place due clearance of tea plantation areas..building zip liners hotels..sad too see..in gulf they are converting deserts in to green land..their target by 2050 the whole gulf country will be a paradise..shame on us

Sri Lanka target is to become a gulf state by year 2048 and strike oil. So cut down many trees as possible.

Yep. Keep destroying our forests and natural habitat. Not just heat, but floods and landslides will be next. We are such a tiny island and yet we are unable to protect it from material greed and destruction. How very, very sad. But of course, let's continue to blame the British for all our modern day failures, shall we?
