The process of re-checking and updating the information of all MPs on the parliamentary website is underway following the discovery that some titles were fake, an informed source said.
The parliamentary authorities have also decided to call for explanations from those in charge of updating information on the web.
Meanwhile, the Communication Department of Parliament said that the title of ‘’Dr.’’ was mentioned before the name of the Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara, in the directory of Members of Parliament on the parliamentary website.
It is important to note that Harshana Nanayakkara has not indicated holding a doctoral degree in the information provided to Parliament. The appearance of the title before the Minister’s name was a result of an error in entering the relevant data. Accordingly, steps have been taken to rectify this mistake.

Good to know that Queens Guards are there in Sri Lanka, they are very sharp in spotting typos that happen when you type fast and do not check back. But these Queens Guards are forgetting the fact that when they open their mouth to speak English , the sounds are not as good as what Queen would like to hear.

Parliamentary employees are not belong to any party, they are Govt. employees employed in parliament for so many years. Before entering in the web site, it is their duty to verify the personal details of all parliamentarians before make it as official data.

Yes. Parliament staff may have done it to make the new NPP members happy by adding a title. We will not be surprised if they add the title Prof. in the future. This is the biggest issue raging in the nation today, and everyone is talking about it. Loss of jobs, loss of income, and widely prevalent poverty, hunger, and shortages are all forgotten. See, this is the achievement of the opposition.

I don’t think this is an error and could be an orchestrated move to discredit the Gov by some parliamentary staff who have vested interest. Please check. However the Speaker’s qualifications are in doubt and he did the right thing by resigning. It was a bit too late and AKD’s government should have acted much faster. We expect better as a country.

Titles such as Dr, Prof. Attorney-at-Law and Engineer etc. given by MPs were and mentioned in the Parliamentary Website from 3rd December. All MPs happily tolerated those titles for 10 days until the issue of Speaker's qualifications ended in a fiasco. Now some MPs blame Parliamentary employees for putting the wrong titles. These MPs MUST be banned from the Parliament.

Don't be ridiculous. These MPs knew very well about what titles they had on the Parliamentary Website. These titles were there not for one or two days but for over 10 days. After the issue of PhD was highlighted MPs who had given wrong titles are wrongly blaming Parliamentary employees for the errors instead of that they should be blaming themselves.

I personally feel until he discloses his details, he not be entertained in parliament be it by the Govt or even the opposition and without wasting time go ahead with more important work to attend. Titles of MPs were put on the Parliamentary Website on 3rd December and MPs tolerated those titles for more than 10 days until Speaker had to resign as he had claimed wrong titles. The stand taken by the cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and senior NPP member Wasantha Samarasinghe was that they would not take this issue above their knees. That was how arrogant they were. Their ridiculous stand made it very difficult for President A.K. Dissanayake to salvage any honour.

If anyone has deliberately misled the public before or during the campaign, there should be accountability for those responsible as attempting to clean something with dirty hands will only make it dirtier. We must hold the NPP to a higher standard than those who merely call themselves politicians, who are there in it only to serve themselves, their families and cronies.

You hit it right on the head. The losers and their party leaders have lost their address, never to come back to claim their pension. Their dreams are shattered and their dream castles have crumbled. This also shows how many henchmen they have left behind among the parliament staff, and it is dangerous situation for the nation.

I had and still have very high regard for Harshana Nanayakara. I would have expected him to check his details on the website immediately after the details were uploaded without wakingup only when an issue was raised. Everyone of the members should have checked their detailson the parliment immediately after they were published. That's the normal human nature. I would consider anyone who had not done so as not disciplined in life and would not execute their duties efficiently. If we were in that situation wont we be anxious to ensure our names and details are accurately captured in the system??? Anyone who had checked the name and not corrected the incorrect information should be considered as personally authorised the misleading information, though initially it was a genuine error.

It is truly disappointing to witness how the promises and statements made by the NPP during their campaign have turned out to be blatant lies. Even worse, they have themselves admitted to misleading the public, raising serious concerns about their integrity and intentions. This is not just a matter of broken promises—it is a direct offense to the people who placed their trust in them. The NPP paraded their so-called qualifications, boasting about the number of doctors, professionals, and experts in their ranks, only for it to be revealed that some of these claims were questionable. Legal action must be pursued against those who have knowingly deceived the public with false qualifications and fraudulent claims. Moreover, the lies propagated during their campaign—such as the fabricated Uganda story, Kanchana's Rs. 60 narrative, promises to immediately reduce electricity tariffs, scrapping the IMF deal, revealing “hidden files,” and other baseless claims—need thorough investigation. Do NOT blame Parliamentary employees for displaying false qualifications of MPs. Parliamentary employees displayed qualifications of MPs provided to them by MPs. These qualifications were in the Parliamentary Website for nearly 10 days and MPs did not complain until issue of false qualifications of Speaker rocked the country. MPs who had given false qualifications MUST resign from MP positions.

Qualifications and titles given in Parliamentary Website are the ones given by MPs. Parliamentary employees do not invent them. Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara and Minister of Urban Development claimed to have PhDs, but they do not have PhDs. Deputy Speaker has a Diploma from a university, but he claimed to be a medical specialist. There can be many more. I do not think Cabinet Spokesman and Chief Organizer of the Government Group in the Parliament Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa takes these issues above his knees.

Follow the simple procedure: entered by, Checked by; this is when the verification is needed. The L boarders [may be new (informal)recruits in parliament like some unfamiliar readers/presenters now in national channels without proper training, making careless mother-Toung mistakes] with a prejudiced mentality of that they all possess such titles unlike defeated many 8-pass guys, signal the new system change. An explanation needed from who proposed that Bluetooth Speaker as well. It looks like the Bros. still prefer to hold the REMOTE CONTROL they used to be with during Satellite era rather than direct governance.

Dear President AKD: There is no need to call explanations from Parliamentary employees. They put the titles supplied to them by MPs on 3rd December and MPs had ample time, over 10 days to rectify if there were errors. All the MPs happily accepted the Website. Even if they noticed any errors, they did not take those errors over their knees. Now you cannot put the blame on parliamentary employees.
