Exhibition at Archaeology Dept. on Independence Day



The Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry will launch an exhibition at the Archaeology Department premises in view of the 75th anniversary of independence, Ministry Secretary Somarathne Vidanapathirana said.

Addressing the media, he said the exhibition will be held in view of the 75th anniversary of Independence Day with the participation of the National Museums Department, the Archaeology Department, and with the support of the Central Cultural Fund.

"Valuable artifacts found during various excavations by the Archaeology Department, and owned by the Museums Department, historical and rare documents in the possession of the Archives Department that have not been exhibited to the public so far, and special artifacts found during conservation projects by the Central Cultural Fund will be on display to the public," Vidanapathirana said.

He said the goal of this exhibition is to educate the public, including schoolchildren about the importance of archaeology artifacts while also attracting tourists.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the President on February 4 and will continue on the following day (5) and entrance will be free of charge, he said.

The Ministry will also provide copies of the rare archived documents and distribute them among the people who visit the exhibition. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
