Excise Department earns record revenue in first quarter of 2026



Colombo, April 20 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Excise Department has earned a record revenue of Rs. 70.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026, exceeding the set revenue target of Rs. 61.95 billion for the same period.

The Department said the government has set a revenue target of Rs. 245 billion for the Sri Lanka Excise Department for the year 2026 and Rs. 61.95 billion for the first quarter.

However, the excise revenue collected by the Department amounted to Rs. 70.4 billion by March 31, 2026

By March 31, 2026, the excise revenue collected by the Excise Department amounted to Rs. 70.4 billion, which is an increase of 113.6% relative to the target revenue.

Excise Commissioner General M.B.N.A. Pemarathne said that this revenue reflects a progress of 114.8% compared to the first quarter of 2025, and that the proper guidance of the new government and the full commitment of excise officers of all ranks have contributed to this increase in excise revenue.
