Ex-policeman arrested over abduction of woman in viral video



Colombo, Jan 22 (Daily Mirror) - A former police officer has been arrested over a viral video showing a woman being forcibly abducted by two individuals, one of whom was dressed as a police officer.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, January 18, outside the hostel of a private hospital in Wellawatte. 

Police investigations revealed that the man dressed as a police officer had been suspended for failing to report for duty.

The Wellawatte Police arrested the former police officer in connection with the abduction and is to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.

According to police, the abductors had stolen cash and other valuables from the woman before abandoning her near Welikada. 

Investigators also determined that the van used in the abduction was rented.

Police said investigations are underway to arrest the other suspect involved in the crime.

It was revealed that the police officer and the abducted woman were husband and wife, though they were living separately.
