Colombo, Jan. 15 (Daily Mirror) - Claiming that he was concerned after the China-based Amber Adventures (Private) Limited pulling out of the Ambuluwawa Cable Car Project, Environment Minister Dammika Patabedi said yesterday he instructed the Ministry to look into the matter, saying that the government is not at all keen on any investors leaving the country.
He told the Daily Mirror that the Environment Ministry has no deal with the Company as the project comes under the Board of Investment (BOI).
The Minister said construction activities at the Ambuluwawa Environmental Zone were suspended following complaints received from environment organisations after the Ditwah cyclone.
He said construction activities can resume if the technical assessment by experts clears the constructions.
The Minister said that all construction activities at risk areas were suspended after the Ditwah cyclone until the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO)issues a clearance report. He said that complaints were received that the construction at Ambuluwawa was continuing sans NBRO clearance.
He said , having considered the complaints, the Ministry instructed the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to look into the matter and the CEA suspended the constructions pending a technical assessment by experts.
The Ministry of Environment ordered the immediate suspension of all construction activities within the Ambuluwawa Environmental Zone, pending a technical assessment by experts.
In the wake of the suspension, China-based Amber Adventures (Private) Limited – the country’s first cable car venture - officially pulled out of the Ambuluwawa Cable Car Project, citing what it called ‘ regulatory obstruction and arbitrary state action’.
