Environment Ministry denies approving road construction through Sinharaja Forest
Colombo, Sept. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Environment today denied granting approval to any road constructions through the Sinharaja Forest Reserve and assured that no support will be given to any such project.
In response to recent media reports on the construction of a road through the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, the Ministry said in a statement that a proposal has been made at a committee meeting held at the Ratnapura Dsitrict Secretariat on a construction of a road as a means of boosting tourism.
The statement added that a team of the District Committee representatives had paid an inpection visit to the area.
However, the statement said that the Ministry or the Wildlife Department have not approved the proposal and said that the Ministry has decided not to provide any support for the construction of such a road.
