England Women completed a 2-0 ODI series win over Sri Lanka Women on the back of Nat Sciver-Brunt's record century, which contributed to a huge 161-run win.

Sciver-Brunt scored her eighth WODI century in just 66 balls, to surpass Charlotte Edwards's 70-ball previous record, as England Women scored 273 for 8 in 31 overs, in the rain reduced match in Leicester.

Opener Maia Bouncer could also have broken Edwards' record, had she not been dismissed for 95 off 65 balls, after putting on a third-wicket partnership of 193 to help England to recover from 18 for 2 in the fifth over.

Kavisha Dilhari took three wickets for Sri Lanka's women, but conceded 42 runs in her four overs.

Being reduced to 46 for 4 inside the first 10 overs of their innings, the chase quickly spun out of control for the visiting team, Hasini Perera top scoring with 32, before Sri Lanka Women were bowled out for 112.

Charlie Dean took 5 for 31, with Lauren Filer accounting for 3 wickets for 30 runs.

  • All the talk about Sri Lankan woman being better than male cricketer Friday, 15 September 2023 10:20 AM

I saw some JVPer supporter suggest for woman to be given place in Sri Lankan men's cricket team even, saying the woman play better. Again all this big talk about woman being more capable than men is silly.

Do you feel threatened, silly man? ;-)

This is the typical SLankan mentality. They need to understand humility. Just because you win a game or two does not mean you conquered the world,. What is needed is consistency in skills and approach. England team may have had a bad day or two but they would come back the as they did. SLW needs to take those as lessons. Keep your head down when winning and not get carried away.

Well, it seems like my sisters are on a roll! Winning an away game is like getting extra credit – no political or cricket authority interference can stop them now. Go, team.

Unless you have a well trained team, players with good stamina only, could give a fight, women's cricket is in its infancy, in few years our women's team would be in good shape, cricket is a game of chance, dropping a catch, run out etc; would result in match defeat.

batting collapse when Athapathu gets out, there is no depth. short format of the game needs big hitters.need some well built lassies to take up the game....

I went to watch all the games SL womens team play. Yes, in the T20 they played well but then again England played a very young team to give them a chance and try them out. In the ODI series England played their best team and it was embarrassing to watch how poor SL womens team perform. They are so dependant on Chamari A. None of the other SL players are in the international standard like Chamari. This is my honest opinion. The truth sometimes hurt !

After making a clean sweep of the T20 series against a second string England side the Sri Lanka Women's cricket team had no answer when they had to compete against a strong England team at full strength in the ODI's. The Sri Lanka Women's Cricket Team were bowled out for a mere 100 runs with almost half of the alloted 50 overs still remaining to be bowled in all three ODI's making a very poor impression of Sri Lanka womens cricket which still has a long way to go.

Coaches and selectors must build a strong top order without changing players in the numbers 3,4 and 5 positions every game. Learn from how SL built that block by keeping Gurusinghe, Aravinda and Ranatunga at numbers 3, 4 and 5 positions even if one of them failed occasionally. For the women's team, management must form that block with Harshitha, Gunarathna and Hasini Perera, then ttrain them the skills and mentality over the next two years.

Let Diana to captain this series - then she will win as in the parliament of SL!
