Colombo, Nov. 23 (Daily Mirror) - The programme to introduce electronic card payments for bus travel will be officially launched from tomorrow(24) at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre.

The initiative, jointly implemented by the Digital Ministry and the Ministry of Transport, will be launched under the patronage of Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake.

Implementing a mandatory electronic payment system for high value business transactions that bypass the Tax net is more important. Many manufacturing industries are selling their products without an invoice and transaction trail. They are the biggest evaders of taxes due to the Government.

Yes, many businesses are involved in tax avoidance and evasion through corrupt IR Dept. officials / auditors that visit business premises. The Govt. needs to crack down on these officials if we want to make it a fair system and improve the livelihoods of everyone by developing this nation.

Why do people always have to say something unrelated? I think the government is taking small steps, one at a time to address various issues in the society. Each person has what he/she think is a prioriy for them. This shouldn't meen that what has been accomplished or done is less important.

What about lawyers? Have you ever seen a receipt for legal fees? Make it mandatory for lawyers to accept card payments or issue receipts.

Now bus drivers and conductors can’t steal money and poor drivers and conductors… increase their wages now so that they do not come up with many other ways to steal money : This is good and revenue could be used to develop our transport services:

Hope it will not be another farce. Is this implemented only for selected few bus routes. Still most buses don't issue a ticket. BTW, the bus route 155 (Ratmalana to Mattakkuliya) re commenced few months ago didn't operate even for a few days.
