Parliament, Feb. 21 (Daily Mirror)- The new proposal on the electricity tariff revision aims to reduce the electricity tariffs increased in October last year, which included 18 percent for the domestic category, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said today.

He told Parliament that the electricity tariffs of domestic consumers and religious places of worship were increased by 18 percent and tariffs on the industry and hotel sector were increased by 12 percent while tariffs on general purpose category including public buildings were increased by 24 percent in October last year and that this tariff increase will be totally reduced in the new tariff revision.

Ah! That's the first intelligent comment made by an authority for a long time. Make sure you keep your promise after the elections. This is the 21st century and our country is acting like we have just come out of World War One. What the hell is wrong with you politicians??

If the reduction causes any losses to the CEB then sack some staff. Keep sacking until it breaks even. Good for nothing corrupt organization. Blocked renewable energy generation for years in a country with abundant sunlight. Keeps paying private diesel generators exorbitant sums. We would be better off going off grid with some solar panels a battery and if all else fails an oil lamp.

    DOT Thursday, 22 February 2024 07:40 AM

Great, but your pseudo voice insufficient to convince voters in coming elections!

    Rishan Thursday, 22 February 2024 07:50 AM

Don't make CEB a service oriented entity rather than a profitable entity. Also make sure every CEB charged for every organisation that consume electricity. Public cannot bear the cost for those who are not paying their usage bills.

Don't feel that much smart now, do you? Always pointing his finger at others indicating his invincibility, this boy Minister better go home and eat humble pie! If not for the humongous cry of protest by trade unions and opposition MPs, this would never have happened. Also - credit the customer accounts with the interest CEB earns on customer deposits!

They decided 3% only but after logical exposure in PUCSL by NPP members, government has no option but should has to reduce by reasonable margin, thank you NPP

Oh NPP has all the pancake of truth .NPP never presented a Digital work sheet on pricing of rates to PUCL. Only made hues by Wasantha and MBBS man who don't have any techno- accounting skills as competent guy. Be happy with their political sense and wish you comfortable with no fuel, no power cuts etc.
