By Buddhika Kumarasiri

The election of a chairman and vice chairman for the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha was postponed indefinitely by the Commissioner of Local Government, Western Province, Sarangika Jayasundara, for the second day today for want of a quorum.

The Commissioner had called the first meeting on June 17 to elect the chairman and the vice chairman and postponed it for today.

When the meeting commenced this morning, the members were divided in opinion on the voting.

One group favoured a secret vote and the other an open vote. The Commissioner decided to inform the council that 24 members favoured a secret vote and 23 an open vote.

However, the members who opted for a secret vote staged a walkout.

Under the circumstances, the Commissioner postponed the election indefinitely for want of a quorum.
