A surplus of eggs and chicken is expected in the country by August next year, and it will be possible to export eggs to foreign countries, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
Addressing the media, he said that it is necessary to import eggs to Sri Lanka only till December.
By January, the number of eggs required for consumption in the country can be produced within the country.
"Even though eggs and rice are imported to Sri Lanka, only a small amount of rice and eggs are exported. This is being done with the aim of protecting the buyers in the market," he said.
Generally, our country used to export eggs, chicken, and sausages to many countries. This had been done for a longer period with the aim of protecting buyers in the international market. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
