Education reforms to boost Pirivena schools: PM



Colombo, October 2 (Daily Mirror) - The quality of Pirivena education is expected to improve through ongoing education reforms, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.

She made these remarks while addressing the "Piriven Guru Prathibha Pranama 2025" appreciation ceremony, organized by the Pirivena Education Division of the Ministry.

At the event, 50 Parivenadhipathi Theros and 100 lay and ordained Parivenacharyas who achieved the highest marks among 825 Pirivenas nationwide were presented with appreciation certificates.

Highlighting the role of Buddhism in education, the Prime Minister said that the teachings of compassion and kindness contain the qualities necessary for enhancing educational standards. She added that discussions are underway within the Pirivena Board to transform Pirivena education, introducing updates suited to the changing world while preserving its core values.

Dr. Amarasuriya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the quality of Pirivena education through reforms, while protecting and promoting this traditional educational system.
