Economy should be strengthened through industrial sector: Industry Minister

While bringing the country’s export economy to its maximum level, the government is paying more attention to the industrial sector by reducing imports and increasing import substitution production.

While addressing the advisory council committee meeting established under the Ministry of Industries yesterday, Plantation Industries and Minister of Industries Ramesh Pathirana requested the contribution and cooperation of all industrialists.

The problems faced by the industrialists in each field, as well as the current electricity and energy crisis, the obstacles in importing raw materials, the foreign exchange issues, and other issues such as in the process of import and export, were discussed.

A discussion was held over the use of renewable energy sources for industries. Everyone agreed to take all possible measures for the promotion of the industry by holding monthly advisory council committee meetings. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

It is a farce that entire plantation sector is crippled. Due to the nonavailability of the fertilizer and other materials needed ,the farmers who are engaged in the tea cultivation are lamenting. Thus we have noticed that number of tea estates are abandoned due to the recent power crisis. Further the plantation minister is looking forward to promote the export oriented industries so as to increase the dollar reserves. Therefore we astonish as to how the plantation minister conquer the present obstacles being faced by the country without a proper road map

Each minister will say the same thing... they will push for their portfolio to improve income. Only the viable paths or earning avenues should be supported. Just because it is made here does not mean it is best for consumer in value and quality. Developed nations became that way by being open market, allowing for imports and exports to happen with the least restrictions. What a country is naturally capable of earning form it gets ahead on, what it shouldn't in a world sense it stops. Intellectual like hub rely on intellect. Japan after 1945 became power house of industry, now other country take over. Those then in turn are being surpassed by the cheapest labor nations. This middle class madness of make and do everything here is just fantasy of office worker who think everything outside of office is less competitive than where they are. Our country having too much government sector and military is also leading to this false thinking leading to wasteful with unnecessary initiatives.

Does this man not know the importance of agriculture? That is what feeds the workers and the thieves. The happy workers who will help the economic recovery. Why can't these people with no vision boost agriculture to stop the drain of much-needed foreign reserves, which in turn boost the economy? These are just talkers like the Rajapakses and no action at all.
