Colombo, April 22 (Daily Mirror) - Family members of the Easter Sunday attacks say they are cautiously optimistic about the ongoing investigations, but have raised serious concerns over what they describe as attempts by various parties to sabotage the process.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Easter Attack Victims' Collective Head Nishantha Mohandiram said that while there has been some progress, the integrity of the investigation must be protected at all costs.
“We are encouraged by the way the investigations are progressing and remain hopeful that the truth will come out. However, there appears to be definite moves by certain parties to derail or weaken the process,” he said.
Mohandiram stressed that law enforcement authorities are continuing to record statements and gather evidence, and urged investigators to remain firm and focused.
“The investigators should not lose their grip at this stage. It is crucial that they continue this process without any interference. We have faith in the manner in which the investigations are being carried out,” he added.
He further called on all stakeholders to ensure that justice is not delayed noting that the victims’ families have waited years for accountability and closure.
The coordinated bombings on April 21, 2019, which targeted churches and hotels, killed over 250 people and injured hundreds more making it one of the deadliest attacks in the country’s history.
