This joker deserves punishment. He had multiple tounges during his time of presidency and was trying to protect Gotha. many believe the latter person is behind the easter sunday barbaric act and hitan did not do anything at that time.

    Darall K. Tuesday, 11 July 2023 02:38 PM

He wants to pretend that he is still begging or his concious blame himself that the carnage can never be compensated paying money?

    Anthony. R Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:01 PM

What a joker, is he hoping to live that long ? Go to Jail, enough cheating the masses. Repay the Loot.

    Ram Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:09 PM

Paying by instalments is OK as long as the full amount is paid within 3 years. Already 3 years have passed. In the next 3 years a Million LKR may depreciate by about 50%

Lost Lankan Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:18 PM

Sell hidden rice and paddy to pay off.

    Gamini Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:34 PM

How about granting him those 10 years, and in return cancel his civic rights until then

    BuffaloaCitizen Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:39 PM

What's the guarantee this bastard will live for next 10y? From the time this order was given by court, the Rupee is devalued, therefore what happens to the issue of devaluation and again the interest payment for 10y? This fellow is cheating the country and its people. He can sell his property and house in Kurunegala and compensate for the wrongs he has done during his tenure.

    Udaya Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:44 PM

Rs. 85 million @ 10% interest p.a. equals Rs. 8.5 million. And in 9 years time what will be the real time value of the instalment he wants to pay? It will be Rs. 3.6 million. He must be joking! What would be the repercussion if anybody failed to pay a court awarded fine? One country one law please.

Rajiv De Silva Tuesday, 11 July 2023 03:48 PM

    Still playing games.

    Ravi Tuesday, 11 July 2023 04:10 PM

Till all these lies and corruption end, the nation will suffer. Its the poor who suffer, the rich will be in the clubs and hotels. Aiyo really think he is fooling us!!

    Wiraj Tuesday, 11 July 2023 04:51 PM

Ask Dudley to give you at-least 5% of his hoarded rice stock.

    Bandu Tuesday, 11 July 2023 05:00 PM

By 2033 that 8,5M will be worth only 850,000 due depreciation .

Tissa Fernando Tuesday, 11 July 2023 05:26 PM

By 2033 he will be long gone as well as the victims who deserve compensation. So better ask Dudley and your children to pay out of billions they earned when you were president. Just pay and admit your guilt and criminal cases will follow thereafter. You have no path to escape.

Sam Silva Tuesday, 11 July 2023 05:26 PM

Why is Ranil not accountable since he was the PM.

    Joseph Tuesday, 11 July 2023 05:34 PM

He can pay 5 million to start with then he has only 80 million balance

    Milinda Tuesday, 11 July 2023 05:47 PM

It is high time that aiyo Sirisena is removed from the Srilankan politics and sent home Gampaha or Polonnaruwa. The courts in Srilanka have given a verdict to indicate that he is an irresponsible person and is not capable to be a leader. Gamarala it is time for you to retire. Shameless person still living on taxpayers money.

    Muhandiram Tuesday, 11 July 2023 06:07 PM

What guarantee is there that he will live for another 10 years and how many of the Victims' heirs will be alive then? He seems to be following the President RW's claim that Sri Lanka will be among the most developed countries in 2048!

    DOT Tuesday, 11 July 2023 06:24 PM

Are you waiting for FD maturity. If that is the case; it's fair!

    iggy Tuesday, 11 July 2023 06:42 PM

Why dont you confiscate some of his assets. I dare the court to do that.

    Jude Tuesday, 11 July 2023 07:11 PM

Well, I reiterate what I predicted, yeah MS gonna ask for extension and the balance Will NEVER be paid, yeah.

Asoka Goonawardena Tuesday, 11 July 2023 08:09 PM

He and the family has collected enough to pay double the amount

SsZ khan Tuesday, 11 July 2023 08:17 PM

He should be sent to gallows and should be barred from civic rights. He misled the country many times.Remember how his son roamed the beach naked and assaulted a person who objected to his taking pictures of him ....

    joshua Tuesday, 11 July 2023 08:37 PM

How come he can pay in instalments? Is this allowed for fines of everybody? Lets see how judiciary handles this...... personally i feel that they will agree to defer.

    roni Tuesday, 11 July 2023 08:44 PM

So, the till that he used for begging must be the size of a well to accommodate coins up to 15mio. Surely this is the season for Alphonso Mangoes, the profits on sales from his large plantation will help to bring the balance 85mio.

    Justice Wednesday, 12 July 2023 08:44 AM

Court must ask Maithripala to declare his assets and that of his family members( family members don't have assets in their own right) and appropriate the quantum of outstanding fine from those assets with immediate effect. There will be more than enough to settle the fine. He should also be deprived of all privileges of an ex- President.

    K.M. Saranapala (Sirisena's village man) Wednesday, 12 July 2023 10:50 AM

Sirisena is lying, if he sells 5% of the bare land, he owns un-cultivated, that is more than enough to pay 85 million.

Tin Tin Tokka Wednesday, 12 July 2023 01:36 PM

May be Ranil will send Sirisena to get a IMF Loan soon, why not he gets the Bribe money Sirisena got it from the terrorists.?

Leel Rajasooriya - Then -MS's good old friend from P'naruwa Wednesday, 12 July 2023 03:35 PM

Sirisena is enjoying the maximum luxury life with his family and he earned in billions for his future, now paying 85 million is just peanuts for him. CID must check his wealth and money in banks under his relations accounts. Yes, he is a liar.... never to be trusted.

    K. Rupasinghe Wednesday, 12 July 2023 03:37 PM

Recently, two months ago Mythiripala Sirisena had bought a brand-new Luxury BMW car to be presented to his daughter. From where this money?

UMAS ALI Wednesday, 12 July 2023 06:36 PM

HE GOT 14 MILLION DOLLARS IN BANK

Jinthu Amaris Wednesday, 12 July 2023 07:14 PM

Finally MS will be acquitted by RW and the clowns! Hurray to our legal system!!

Gerry (UK) Thursday, 13 July 2023 04:31 AM

Can I pay my traffic fine in instalments over 5 years, never mind 10 years? One country, many laws?

Escape from Justice. Thursday, 13 July 2023 09:51 AM

The Court must ask each of them to declare their Assets, including that of their families ( as by now all their Assets may have been transferred in the names of the family members) and decide further action .
