Earthquake of magnitude 5.8 felt in several areas in Sri Lanka



The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau reported that there had been a magnitude 5.8 earthquake in the seas off South-East of Sri Lanka this afternoon.

The tremor, which occurred deep below the sea, was located approximately 1,260 kms away from Colombo.

There have been reports of people feeling the quake in Colombo, Battaramulla, Akuressa and Galle.

However, the Bureau has stated that there has been no adverse effects from the tremor on Sri Lanka. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
