Sri Lanka received a significant boost to its disaster relief operations on December 17, as a special cargo plane from Germany and Luxembourg landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) carrying 69,000 kilograms of essential supplies valued at €5 million.

The Boeing 747-400 aircraft, arriving from Liege at 4:30 a.m., delivered a range of critical items including tents, mattresses, kitchen utensils, and water purification equipment, aimed at supporting communities affected by recent natural disasters.

German Deputy Ambassador to Sri Lanka Sarah Hasselbarth, European Union Ambassador Pierre Tripon, and officials from the Disaster Management Center welcomed the shipment, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between Sri Lanka and EU nations in humanitarian aid.

The delivery underscores the European Union’s commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in strengthening its emergency response capabilities and providing timely support to vulnerable populations.
