Business magnate Dudley Sirisena announced that he will demolish the portion of his Sudu Araliya Hotel identified as an unauthorised construction.

Addressing an event in Hingurakgoda, Sirisena said he will comply with the law by personally removing the section, while hotel operations and bookings would continue till May.

Earlier in July, Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lal Kantha rejected claims that the hotel had been excluded from the government’s programme to remove unauthorised structures along irrigation tank reservations.

If it’s done legally, alls good! But now he should be heavily fined and a long jail term too even if he decides to demolish the illegal structures. He escaped with this illegal situation and only decides to act now after knowing he’s been cornered. As many are aware, these kinds of people have been having a honeymoon with all the previous misfits running the country. Since a crime has been found, impose the maximum punishment and use the penalties for the improvements of government run medical facilities.

Tourists from rich Western countries have been pouring into Sri Lanka since independence and their numbers have gone up into millions every year specially in the last fifteen years . But who is benefiting economically from these tourists ? Definitely there is no change in the Sri Lanlan economic standards and the country continues to remain poor. So where are all the millions of dollars earned from the tourists ending up ? It is SCANDALOUS and CRIMINAL that the only beneficiaries of Tourist generated wealth are the "Poorly Educated Hoteliers and others connected to the tourists ". It is shocking to me that no Sri Lankan President nor Prime Minister has ever thought about this during their time as Heads of State .

Fully agree with you. I think half the from the tourist income money In foreign bank accounts. . I heard from a Swiss tourist, when he got to know the owner of the hotel after staying a week in a hikkaduwa hotel, acknowledge him , when he comes next time to Sri Lanka he gets 50% discount if he pays in CHF to his hand.
