Dry weather persists, but showers likely in Southern districts

Colombo, February 19 (Daily Mirror) - While dry weather continues over most parts of the island, thundershowers are expected in the Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts during the evening or night, the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

Misty conditions are also likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, as well as in the Badulla district during the morning.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise potential damage from localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, mainly fair weather will prevail over most sea areas around the island, except for a few showers in the waters off the coast from Pottuvil to Kalutara via Hambantota and Galle.

Winds will be north-easterly at a speed of 30 km/h, with occasional increases up to 40 km/h in the sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These sea areas are expected to be fairly rough.
