A complaint was filed against a drunken traffic policeman in uniform who had knocked down a man on the pedestrian crossing on the Colombo-Negombo main road and had fled away.
Despite being under heavy influence of liquor, the traffic policeman had allegedly attempted to defend his actions with the protesting crowd and a priest from the Mattumagala church. The priest who refuted the policeman’s explanation explained the gravity of the offense he had committed.
The injured man, who suffered fractures to his hand and leg, was promptly taken to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama for urgent medical attention. Following the incident, the traffic policeman had fled the scene in a three-wheeler even without looking into the injuries of the person he had knocked down.
The Catholic priest lodged a complaint with the Mahabage Police Station in connection with the incident and to take action against the offence committed by the drunken policeman. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

He should be interdicted with immidiete effect. Most of the police officers are like this. Some are even involved with drugs. We saw an asp few month ago getting caught with ganja. Probably better to create a new police as these buggers cannot stop any underworld activities such as kilings, drugs and rapes but only good at just harassing people.

This police officer should be prosecuted. Further if he is found guilty he should be dismissed from the government service. Besides the officers who are implementing the law should be exemplary to the entire society

These guys are supposed to maintain law and order. I dont understand the reason why these traffic cops hide behind something then suddenly jump forward to stop the defaulters. They may be wanting the drivers to make mistakes so that they get jarawa to release. The cops ought to be told to stand in a place where everybody can see. This will reduce accidents to a large extent.
